West Ham asked Newcastle United about Trippier and the 33-year-old defender talked with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe about a possible transfer.
While, West Ham want to sign Manchester United right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the clubs are negotiating although no agreement has been reached yet. Hence, West Ham have lined up Kieran Trippier as Wan-Bissaka alternative.
West Ham target England international as Wan-Bissaka alternative
Recently, Fabrizio Romano in his daily briefing column reported that the Hammers are considering signing Trippier in case they couldn't reach an agreement with Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer. Although, Trippier isn't a defensive right back like Wan-Bissaka, but the England international is an experienced fullback who is a reliable defender and contributes in the build up play as well.
West Ham have recently signed Nice centre back Jean-Clair Todibo as a new central defender to partner Max Kilman. Todibo has been one of the best centre backs in the French league in the last season and his pace and physicality will massively bolster West Ham's defence. Thus, if Trippier joins West Ham, he would bring his quality and experience to help West Ham keep more clean sheets this season.
Furthermore, Trippier's passing accuracy and ability to advance the ball align well with Julen Lopetegui's tactical approach. His addition would introduce competition and depth to West Ham's right-back position, currently held by Vladimir Coufal. The Englishman's experience in European competitions would also be a valuable asset as West Ham prepare for the upcoming Premier League season aiming for a top six finish to return to playing European football from next season.
As the transfer window nears its conclusion, West Ham will be keen to secure Trippier's signature, as his presence would not only strengthen their defence but also provide tactical flexibility to Lopetegui's ambitious plans. Hence, it remains to be seen whether West Ham sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Kieran Trippier as the new right back for the upcoming season.
