In the January transfer window, there were rumors that Callum Wilson's contract at West Ham United would be terminated. The club had signed Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, so it looked like Wilson's chances of playing would be slim.
However, this year he has performed well for the Hammers and scored the winner against Tottenham Hotspur. His contract at West Ham was to expire in the summer. However, Wilson is now set to stay at the London Stadium.
The Telegraph has reported that "Wilson has agreed a one-year contract extension with West Ham United just weeks after being on the brink of leaving the club."
Callum Wilson would be a good option for West Ham in the Premier League or Championship
The problem West Ham have right now when planning for the summer is that they do not know which division they will be in. They are currently 18th in the Premier League, but only just as they are behind Nottingham Forest on goal difference.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side are on good form right now, but they face a tough run-in to the end of the season. They still have to play Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.
Extending Wilson's stay at the London Stadium could be a smart move. If the Hammers stay in the Premier League, then the 34-year-old would be a good back-up striker option. However, if they are relegated, he could be in for a more prominent role in the Championship.
Wilson won the Championship with AFC Bournemouth in the 2014/15 season. His experience of English soccer's second tier could be crucial for the Hammers if the worst comes to worst and they do end up going down.
