One of West Ham United's brightest sparks in a relegation-threatened season has been Dinos Mavropanos. His standout performances have led to interest from one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany posted on X: "Mavropanos is set to leave West Ham this summer as he is seeking a new challenge. 28 y/o has delivered top performances consistently over the past few months, attracting interest from both the Bundesliga and the Premier League. Borussia Dortmund have discussed him internally in recent weeks. Potential deal could be difficult as his price is expected to be very high."
Mavropanos has come a long way since he joined West Ham back in 2023. He initially struggled for game time, and error-strewn performances led to him getting a bit of stick from supporters. However, he has turned his Hammers career around.
His two goals in West Ham's 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week proved just how important the center-back is to the club. Mavropanos' partnership with Axel Disasi has given the club hope that they can stay in the Premier League next season.
Dinos Mavropanos would be a huge loss to West Ham
Mavropanos started his career with the Greek side, PAS Giannina, before moving to Arsenal. However, he played for the Gunners just eight times and was sent on loan to Nurnberg and Stuttgart. The defender then joined Stuttgart permanently before joining West Ham.
Given his experience playing in Germany, a move to Dortmund could be tempting for Mavropanos. Especially as he is being linked with the Black and Yellow, who are historically the Bundesliga's second-biggest team behind Bayern Munich.
Niko Kovac's side is currently second in the Bundesliga to Bayern. They are also Champions League regulars and made it to the playoff round this campaign before losing to Atalanta. You could not blame Mavropanos for wanting to move to a club of Dortmund's stature.
The center-back would be missed at the London Stadium, but there is optimism that Disasi could join the club permanently if they remain in the Premier League. The Hammers have also been linked with other defenders, including Waldemar Anton of Dortmund. Other center-backs West Ham have been monitoring include Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Southampton, Lucas Herrington of the Colorado Rapids, and Ozan Kabak of Hoffenheim.
