Having played for Barcelona always puts you in high regard in the world of soccer. Oscar Mingueza came through the ranks at Barca and went on to play 66 times for them, scoring twice and producing five assists. He also won the Copa del Rey with the Spanish giants.

The right-back then moved to Celta Vigo in 2022, and has played 137 times for them. He has seven goals and 15 assists for Celta. However, his contract with them is up at the end of the season. Despite being offered a new contract, Celta are resigned to losing their star defender.

Mingueza will have many suitors. According to Estadio Deportivo (translated from Spanish), "clubs of the caliber of Olympique de Marseille, Aston Villa, and West Ham have been knocking on the door of the Spanish international, with Newcastle and several Italian teams, such as Atalanta, Milan, and Cesc Fàbregas's Como, joining the race. But Juventus has been the most persistent."

Does West Ham have a chance of signing Oscar Mingueza?

Mingueza, who has four caps for Spain, is currently at a team who are sixth in La Liga. West Ham are currently in the bottom three of the Premier League. Only if the Hammers stay in English soccer's top flight will they have a chance of signing him.

He would likely be the first choice right-back at West Ham ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters. Mingueza's versatility of being able to play center-back and at right-midfield would make him a useful asset for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Unfortunately, there are many other top clubs interested in Mingueza, most of which could be able to offer Champions League soccer. Therefore, up against the likes of Villa, Marseille, and Juventus, the Hammers have a very slim chance.
