El Hadji Malick Diouf has impressed at West Ham United with his performances at left-back. This has led to interest from Manchester United.

The Guardian has reported that "West Ham’s El Hadji Malick Diouf has emerged as a target for Manchester United as they weigh up a summer move for a left-back."

Diouf is particularly good on the ball, where he has an excellent range of passing. However, there are still question marks about his defensive duties. His ability to cross the ball has led to him making five assists in 30 Premier League games this season. Although he has yet to score for West Ham.

The defender joined West Ham from Slavia Prague, the team from which Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal also came. The Czech side has become somewhat of a feeder club for West Ham. At just 21 years old, Diouf is ahead of Oliver Scarles -who is one year younger- when it comes to playing left back for the Hammers.

Would El Hadji Malick Diouf be a good fit for Manchester United?

Man United will need a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw, who is now 30 and injury-prone. However, he has managed to stay fit throughout this season. Shaw is contracted to United until 2027, so if Diouf were to join, then he would likely be a backup to Shaw initially.

United also has Tyrell Malacia and Patrick Dorgu as left-back options, so competition for places at Old Trafford would be fierce. Malacia has played just two Premier League games this season. Whilst Dorgu has been used in more attacking roles before picking up a hamstring injury.

Diouf may be better off staying at West Ham to ensure regular game time. However, if the Hammers are to be relegated, then he would likely not hang around at the club. The left-back is in demand and has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain.

The left-back was a star for Senegal as they lifted the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this season. However, they were unfortunately stripped of their title. This injustice will spur Diouf on to claim more silverware in his career, and he would do that by joining either United or PSG.
