Federico Gatti was part of the Juventus side that lost 5-2 to Galatasaray in the first-leg of their Champions League playoff match this week. The Italian was substituted on in the 34th minute to replace the injured Bremer. Juve were leading 2-1 at the time, but had a disastrous second half.

Despite this, Gatti is still in demand from clubs across Europe. The journalist, Nicolo Schira, posted on X: "Olympique Lyonnais have shown interest in Juventus’ centre-back Federico Chiesa for the summer transfer window. West Ham and Nottingham Forest are still interested in Juve’s player, who could leave at the end of the season."

Gatti came through the lower divisions of soccer in Italy at clubs including Alessandria, Pavarolo, Saluzzo, Verbania, Pro Patria, and Frosinone before he moved to Juventus. The center-back is now 27 and has six caps for England.

Would Federico Gatti be a good fit for West Ham United?

Gatti has become a bit-part player for Juve this season. He also missed a section of the campaign with a meniscus injury, which has meant he has made just 12 Serie A appearances. Despite being contracted to the Italian side until 2030, his time at the club could soon be coming to an end.

West Ham will only have a hope of signing Gatti if they remain a Premier League side. Forest, who Gatti is also being linked with, are the Hammers' main relegation rivals. It would be a gamble for Gatti to join a team that has struggled in English soccer this season. However, the Premier League is the best division in the world, and where the top players want to test themselves. It would be a safe option for Gatti to join Lyon, who are currently third in Ligue 1.

The Hammers will need to strengthen at the end of the campaign. Disasi is only on loan from Chelsea. Whilst he has impressed so far for West Ham, there is no option to make his deal permanent right now.

When it comes to the Hammers' other center-backs, Dinos Mavropanos is the only one who is really rated. Max Kilman has not been on form this campaign, whilst Jean-Clair Todibo proved his unreliability with a petulant red card against Chelsea.
