West Ham United and Fulham play each other in the Premier League this Wednesday. The two London clubs could also be locking horns for the signature of a USMNT international.
The transfer expert, Ekrem Konur, posted on X: "Fulham & West Ham ready to meet Milan’s asking price for Yunus Musah! 23-year-old US midfielder → spent loan spell at Atalanta. Permanent move expected in summer window."
Musah was born in New York City, but spent his youth living in Italy and England. He played for Giorgione before joining Arsenal's academy. The midfielder represented the Three Lions up to the Under-18 level.
It was in Spain, at Valencia, where Musah broke into senior soccer as a 17-year-old. He went on to play 108 times for the La Liga side, scoring five goals, with three assists. He helped them make it to the 2022 Copa del Rey final, but Valencia lost on penalties to Real Betis that day.
Yunus Musah has been linked with a return to London in the past
The midfielder was linked with a range of European clubs in the summer of 2023, including Chelsea. However, it was AC Milan who got his signature. With Milan, Musah won the Supercoppa Italiana, where they beat rivals Inter Milan in the final.
He played 80 times for Milan without scoring, but he did make five assists. This season, he has been on loan at Atalanta, where he has made 20 appearances, finding the back of the net once and making one assist.
Musah is predominantly a central midfielder, but can play in an attacking role and on the right. At the age of just 23, he already has 47 caps for the USMNT, and played in each of their games at the 2022 World Cup. However, he may not feature at the tournament hosted in North America this summer. He has not played for Mauricio Pochettino's side since a 2-1 defeat to Canada in the Nations League in March of last year.
Moving to Fulham or West Ham would mean a return to London for the former Arsenal academy player. The more attractive option would be Fulham right now, as they have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe. West Ham have potential if they can remain in the Premier League. However, Musah would be reluctant to join the Hammers if they were relegated to the Championship.
