Axel Disasi could have stayed at West Ham United if the club had kept its Premier League status. However, following the club's relegation, he will return to Chelsea from his loan. The Hammers are targeting Dylan Lawlor as a replacement for the Frenchman.
The Athletic has reported that there is "interest in Cardiff City defender Dylan Lawlor."
Lawlor has made the bench for Cardiff when they were in the Championship. However, he burst onto the scene for the Bluebirds in League One last season. He made 32 appearances in the third tier, scoring twice and making two assists.
The center-back helped Cardiff finish second in League One, which secured their promotion back to the Championship. His form has earned him six caps for Wales. He played 120 minutes as Craig Bellamy's side lost on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup playoffs.
Lawlor has proved he is too good for League One, so he deserves a chance in the Championship. It remains to be seen whether that will be with West Ham or Cardiff. Last year, Lawlor was even linked with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but the 20-year-old would unlikely start for either club.
West Ham needs to bring in reliable center-backs this summer. Disasi is going back to Chelsea, where he will likely be sold elsewhere. Dinos Mavropanos has been linked with Borussia Dortmund. Whilst Jean-Clair Todibo is set to be sold following a fallout with Nuno Espirito Santo.
Have West Ham been linked with anyone else?
The Athletic has also revealed that "High on West Ham’s list of targets is Sheffield United midfielder Sydie Peck."
Peck is from London and played for Arsenal's academy before moving to Sheffield United. He made one appearance for the Blades in the Premier League, which came against Brentford. He has since been a regular for Sheffield United in the Championship.
The midfielder was particularly efficient last season, where he scored five goals with four assists in 40 matches in the second tier. However, the Blades finished 13th.
A return to London to play for a side expected to gain promotion would be tempting for Peck. He is a central midfielder who can also play in a defensive role. The Hammers will need a new midfielder with Mateus Fernandes being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid.
