No chance of Axel Disasi staying at West Ham now

With relegation all but confirmed, Axel Disasi is now being linked with a club that has ensured its Premier League future.

When Axel Disasi arrived at West Ham United on loan from Chelsea in January, it was seen as a desperate move. After all, he had been frozen out at Stamford Bridge and failed to revitalize his career on loan at Aston Villa last season.

Disasi surprised many by forming a solid center-back partnership with Dinos Mavropanos. Of the 12 Premier League games Disasi has played for West Ham, they have won four, drawn four, and lost four. The recent back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Arsenal have all but relegated the Hammers.

Mavropanos has been a standout player for West Ham this season, and he is being linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. Many of the Hammers' other top players will depart if relegation is confirmed. Mateus Fernandes is on Manchester United's radar, Crysencio Summerville has many suitors, and it is hard to see even Jarrod Bowen staying if the club is in the Championship next campaign.

There were reports that Disasi could stay, but that would only have been if the Hammers stayed in the Premier League. This looks unlikely now.

Where could Axel Disasi go next?

Football Insider has reported that "Disasi is wanted by Leeds United in the upcoming summer transfer window as he continues to impress on loan at West Ham. Leeds were interested in Disasi during the January window as he looked to leave Chelsea on loan, but were beaten to his signature by the Hammers."

West Ham's loss to Arsenal confirmed that Leeds would be a Premier League side next season. Daniel Farke's side has done very well considering that this was their first season back up from the Championship.

Disasi is only 28, has five caps for France, and was considered a very good player at AS Monaco. It was unfortunate that it did not work out for him at Chelsea. However, he has proved that he can still perform at the highest level at West Ham this season.

The defender could be a good option for Farke as competition for the likes of Pascal Struijk, Jaka Bijol, and Joe Rodon. Leeds can now prepare for another season in English soccer's top flight, where they will be looking at climbing up the table.
