- Former West Ham manager David Moyes left the Hammers after the previous season.
- West Ham considered signing high-flying Premier League club's manager before bringing in Julen Lopetegui.
West Ham's decision to bring Julen Lopetegui as their new manager at the beginning of the transfer window has had mixed reactions among the West Ham fans. While the Hammers wanted a more active and possession based style of football at the club, the results in the start of the season haven't been much convincing. West Ham have registered two wins alongside two draws in their first seven Premier League matches that included three consecutive home defeats against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea at the London Stadium.
The Hammers are currently twelfth in the league table, level on eight points with Bournemouth as well as Manchester United and are already eliminated from the Carabao Cup with a 5-1 away defeat against Liverpool two weeks ago. Hence, manager Julen Lopetegui is expected to return West Ham to winning ways in the Premier League and guide the Hammers to qualify for a European spot at the end of the season. Meanwhile, there is another Premier League team who are comfortable placed in the European football spots going into the international break having a new manager at their helm, similar to West Ham.

The Premier League side is Brighton, who recently completed a huge 3-2 comeback win against Tottenham Hotspurs and sit at sixth place in the league table. Also, according to GIVEMESPORT, West Ham were interested in hiring their new manager, Fabian Hurzeler who has recorded three wins and three draws in his first seven matches at Brighton in the Premier League. This included huge wins against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs as well as an important 1-1 draw with Premier League title favourites Arsenal.
The report suggests that Hurzeler was considered by the Hammers as part of their managerial shortlist to replace West Ham but as compared to other proven managers such as Julen Lopetegui, the Brighton manager was viewed as being much inexperienced to help them achieve their ambitions of a top six league finish this season. Other managers such as former Chelsea and Brighton manager, Graham Potter is also rumoured to be interested in returning to club football management with the West Ham role and the speculations regarding bringing a new manager will increase if West Ham continue their inconsistent form in the upcoming matches against Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester United as well.
On the other hand, if West Ham take two back-to-back wins from these important games, the Hammers would be well placed to rival Newcastle United, Brighton and Aston Villa for a top six place in the Premier League towards the second half of their league campaign.
