Should West Ham replace Julen Lopetegui with former Chelsea manager
West Ham brought in new manager Julen Lopetegui after the end of the last season following David Moyes's departure as the Hammers manager after five seasons at the club. On top of that, West Ham made a total of nine new signings to assemble a well balanced squad that can qualify for European football again next season. However, the beginning of the Premier League season hasn't been great for the Hammers, who have been struggling to score goals and keep more clean-sheets despite dominating the ball possession and passing stats in most of the matches.
Although Julen Lopetegui's side have already played against top Premier League teams such as Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea in their first five matches, their performances haven't been improving as they currently sit fourteenth in the league table. While star forward Niclas Fullkrug is currently sidelined with an injury, manager Julen Lopetegui's lineup changes haven't been convincing with new signings such as Jean-Clair Todibo and Cryscencio Summerville getting limited playing time despite West Ham’s struggles in both attack and defence. Hence, there is a growing speculation that Lopetegui can leave West Ham if the Hammers doesn't start taking wins in the upcoming matches against Brentford and Ipswich Town.
Should West Ham replace Julen Lopetegui with former Chelsea manager
Therefore, West Ham may consider replacing him with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, who has recently revealed about his decision to return to club football management, saying,
"I’ve felt ready to return for a little while. It still has to be the right thing, but I’m excited for it.
- Graham Potter
I’m excited to hear what the opportunities are and I’ll take each one and judge it on its merits."
Although Graham Potter didn't had a successful managerial career at Chelsea, he managed Brighton previously and made them one of the most improved teams in the Premier League. Further, Potter’s focus on developing young players will be great for West Ham, who have several promising players such as Lewis Orford, Kaelan Casey and Ollie Scarles in their youth teams.
Hence, Lopetegui needs to find a winning momentum and a good balance in the lineup quickly in order to take more points in the next few matches otherwise the West Ham board can consider bringing in another manager at the club.
