After three consecutive seasons playing European football, West Ham started their Carabao Cup campaign in the second round this season. In the previous three seasons, West Ham had a huge fixture list in those seasons due to playing European football, hence, used to start from the round three. Now, after a win and a defeat in the Premier League, Julen Lopetegui's side turned their attention to the Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth at the London Stadium.

In this transfer window, Bournemouth sold their star striker Dominic Solanke for £65 million to Tottenham. To replace him, they signed Evanilson from Porto for £40 million transfer fee. Bournemouth are adapting with a new forward, therefore, the Hammers needed to score a few early goals and take a comfortable win. But, the match turned out to be well balanced inside the first half with some really good goal scoring chances created by both teams.

For West Ham, new signings Todibo, Wan-Bissaka, Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug started the match and Fabianski played as the goal keeper. While Bournemouth didn't created huge chances, they managed to find spaces in the Hammers defence. Vladimir Coufal and Jean-Clair Todibo made a few misplaced passes, but overall the defence kept the score at 0-0 going into half time. In the second half, Bournemouth again started well, however, Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka made several quality tackles to keep away Bournemouth from scoring.

In the final fifteen minutes, both Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus were brought in, and that's when West Ham started advancing more in the final third. With only a few minutes remaining in the match, Jarrod Bowen played a nice quick pass to Paqueta who tried to chip a pass over the defence, but the ball deflected and came to Kudus, who tried an attempt on goal, which deflected off Bowen and found the back of the net.
