Coming on the back of two consecutive defeats in the Sunshine State Tour against Premier League opponents Wolves and Crystal Palace, West Ham prepared to face Celta Vigo in the last game of the preseason. Hours before the start of the game, West Ham made headlines in the transfer window with the Hammers completing the signing of Nice centre back Jean-Clair Todibo.

After that, West Ham also signed Manchester United right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well to bolster the defence. Also, with star players like Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and new signings Summerville, Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez named in the starting lineup, Julen Lopetegui had most of his star players available for this game before the start of the upcoming season next week.
