Last season, West Ham finished ninth in the Premier League following an underwhelming performance in the second half of the season. Former manager David Moyes also left West Ham and Julen Lopetegui was presented as the new manager.
At the start of the transfer window, West Ham had to bring in a new forward as well as a few signings to improve the defence. Therefore, the Hammers signed Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo to bolster the central defence and signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a new right back.
Manager Julen Lopetegui opens up on new signings
In terms of attack, West Ham signed left winger Cryscencio Summerville and centre forward Niclas Fullkrug. Alongside them young talent Luis Guilherme, 33-year-old Wes Foderingham and holding midfielder Guido Rodriguez also joined West Ham this summer.
Now, West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has opened up on the new signings. Speaking about the transfer window, Lopetegui said,
"We had a small squad, and the idea is to have two players per position. We haven’t achieved that yet… but we are working on it."Julen Lopetegui
Further, Lopetegui revealed the need of a quality squad depth. West Ham already had one of the smallest squads in the Premier League and thus, Lopetegui said that the club are working to improve the squad depth, saying,
"All the signings are to our liking and that of the sporting management. No coach should hold the keys to the future of the club. The idea was to bring in players who could know the Premier League so that British culture is in the dressing room, and then to be able to mix different ways of understanding football."Julen Lopetegui
Hence, West Ham can still make a few signings in this transfer window. The club is currently interested in signing a new centre forward as well as a box-to-box midfielder to bolster the squad.
