When West Ham United were relegated to the Championship, the rivalry with Millwall was renewed. The Hammers had not faced the Lions since they were last in the second tier during the 2011/12 campaign.

Reid became a West Ham legend for his strike against Millwall the last time the two sides met. The New Zealander would go on to score another famous goal for the Hammers by netting the winner in the final game at Upton Park, which was a 3-2 win over Manchester United.
The result in 2012 was impressive for the Hammers as Kevin Nolan had been sent off in just the ninth minute. Reid assisted Carlton Cole's goal too. His winner was controversial as it looked like Julian Faubert had fouled the Millwall keeper David Forde.
The 2009 EFL Cup match will also be remembered for the bravery that Jack Collison had in playing just two days after the passing of his father. The game was 1-1 after normal time, but goals from Stanislas and Hines won it for the Hammers in extra time. That game was marred by pitch invasions, and there was trouble outside of Upton Park.
West Ham are currently top of the Premier League, but only on goal difference. Millwall are 11th, but only four points behind the Hammers. Nuno Espírito Santo's side lost to Fulham in the EFL Cup this week, but have won their last four Championship games.
Millwall have had some bad results recently, losing three, drawing one, and winning just once of their last five games. They have lost heavily to Blackburn Rovers and Wrexham. Alex Neil's side were also defeated 1-0 by Newcastle United in the EFL Cup. Their win was a 4-0 drubbing of Bolton Wanderers. This week, the Lions managed a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough despite missing multiple players through injury.
