West Ham United were knocked out of the EFL Cup at the London Stadium 3-2 by Fulham. The Hammers have been in form recently, and Fulham have had a bad start to the campaign. So there was optimism that an upset could be on the cards, with a Championship side knocking out a Premier League team. However, that didn't happen.
Player Ratings
- Finley Herrick - 5: Not much he could have done about the goals he conceded. However, he did make good saves on occasion.
- Kyle Walker-Peters - 5: Failed to deal with Fulham's strong left side of César Palacios and Antonee Robinson. However, Walker-Peters did contribute in attacking areas.
- Konstantinos Mavropanos - 4: Not his best defensive performance, as he allowed Fulham forwards too much space. However, Mavropanos was a threat at the opposite end from set-pieces. Was caught in possession late on, which led to a goalscoring opportunity for the Cottagers.
- Max Kilman (c) - 4: It shows how far Kilman has come from last season that he was trusted with the captaincy. However, he did not organise his back four well enough in a poor defensive display.
- Morato - 5: Morato is predominantly a centre-back, but playing at left-back he becomes unstuck in certain situations. However, he did get on the scoresheet.
- Arne Engels - 6: Excellent from set-piece situations, and can put balls into the box from open play too.
- Lewis Orford - 5: Needs to be more physical in defensive situations, but is very good on the ball.
- Divine Mukasa - 5: Is not as effective out wide as he is centrally. Mukasa was still involved in some good build-up play.
- Mohamadou Kante - 6: Has starred in attacking midfield recently, but was chosen to play out on the left wing. Still managed to contribute in attacking areas and was involved in Pablo's goal.
- Josh Ajala - 5: Starred in the win over Southampton in the previous round, but could not replicate that performance.
- Pablo - 7: Pablo finally has his first West Ham goal in his 22nd game for the club. Again, his all-round play was good, and hopefully his finish will springboard him to more goals.
Off the Bench
- Jarrod Bowen - 6: Put some good crosses into the box from open play and from a corner.
- Manor Solomon - 6: Solomon's excellent dribbling caused problems for the Fulham defence.
- Taty Castellanos - 5: Often dropped deep and threaded some excellent through balls. However, Castellanos missed a great chance late on.
- Joel Piroe - N/A: Came on in the 83rd minute, so did not get much of a chance.
- Ollie Scarles - N/A: Subbed on at the same time as Piroe, so cannot rate his performance either.
