Mark Noble's son Lenny is one of 14 players to have signed scholarship deals with the Academy of Football. This means that he will be a part of the club's Under-18s next season.

The player posted on his Instagram account: "Proud to sign my scholarship for West Ham. Excited for the next chapter."

This is a huge step for the young man. Whilst the first team has just been relegated to the Championship, the future could still be bright for the club.

Many fathers and sons have played for West Ham before

The most famous example would be Frank Lampard Sr. and his son, also Frank. The older Lampard spent almost the entirety of his career with the Hammers from the 1960s through to the 1980s. He then went on to work as Harry Redknapp's assistant at the club.

Redknapp was also the younger Lampard's uncle. This led to accusations of nepotism when the player broke into the first team. Lampard was never really taken to at Upton Park, and eventually moved to Chelsea. He became a legend at Stamford Bridge and always got stick when he faced West Ham.

Another West Ham legend, Steve Potts, has now had two sons play for West Ham. Dan came through the ranks at West Ham, but his time in the first team was brief. He went on to have a long stint with Luton Town. His other son Freddie, is still part of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.

Alvin Martin, who won the FA Cup with the Hammers in 1980, had his goalkeeping son play for West Ham too. David Martin played for West Ham towards the end of his career and notably kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win away at Chelsea.

Sons rarely surpass their fathers' careers at West Ham

It is often difficult for sons to live up to the careers of their legendary fathers. It is a similar story with John Moncur and his son George, Rob Lee and Elliot Lee.

Other father and sons who both played for West Ham include Jim Barrett Sr. and Jim Barrett Jr, Bill Lansdowne Sr. & Billy Lansdowne Jr, and Ken Brown & Kenny Brown. It is also a theme that they give their sons the same name.

Kenny Brown is now West Ham's academy manager. He was quoted on the club's official website congratulating the new scholars: "These are the best years of your life, so attack every day of it. There are a few of us in the room who have been in your shoes and when we look back on it now, they were the best days of our careers."
