Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes are the two West Ham United players who are most in demand right now. They are now both being linked with Manchester United.
The Athletic has reported that "One of those paying serious attention to Summerville are Manchester United... With Nottingham Forest’s asking price for (Elliot) Anderson stretching beyond a British record transfer fee, United are focusing their efforts on alternatives such as Mateus Fernandes."
Summerville starred for the Netherlands in their opening game of the World Cup. He scored a fine goal to put his side 2-1 up against Japan. However, he was booked just before scoring and was then subbed off. Japan then went on to get a late equalizer.
Despite his form for West Ham, Fernandes was not selected in Portugal's roster for the World Cup. However, he did make his international break earlier in the year when he replaced Man United player Bruno Fernandes against the USMNT.
Will Man United be able to sign both Summerville and Fernandes?
The current British record transfer fee is the £125 million that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak. Paying more than this for Anderson is a lot, but Mateus Fernandes will not come cheaply either. West Ham values him at £80 million.
Fernandes is also being linked with Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain. He is too good to play in the Championship next season, and appears destined to join a Champions League club.
Summerville has also been the subject of interest from PSG. He has suitors across Europe, including AS Roma, AC Milan, and Olympique Marseille, too. His Netherlands teammate, Donyell Marlen, who shares the same agent as Summerville, has been trying to persuade the West Ham player to join him at Roma.
The transfer sagas for both Summerville and Fernandes will likely drag on throughout the summer. Fernandes could be priced out of a move to certain clubs. However, he is free this summer to work on negotiations. Summerville's focus is on the World Cup for now, where he has an excellent opportunity to showcase his talents further.
The Dutchman's future will depend on what happens with several players this summer. This includes whether Marcus Rashford will be staying at Man United. Roma are also interested in Mason Greenwood. If they sign him from Marseille, it could close the door on a move to the Italian capital for Summerville. However, it could ramp up Marseille's efforts to sign him.
