Since being sacked by West Ham United, Graham Potter has been in charge of Sweden. He took over a side that was struggling in their World Cup qualifying campaign. In his two qualifiers so far in charge, Sweden lost 4-1 to Switzerland before drawing 1-1 with Slovenia.

Despite having the likes of Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak, and Lucas Bergvall on their roster, Sweden finished bottom of their qualifying group, which also included Kosovo. However, they ensured a World Cup playoff place due to their Nations League form.

Sweden won promotion to Group B of the Nations League last season. This meant that they were one of the four best-performing teams in the competition that were not assured of a World Cup playoff place. Potter's side plays Ukraine in the semi-finals of the playoffs. Should they progress, then they will face either Poland or Albania.

It was expected that Potter would take this job as a break from club soccer. He could then leave after the World Cup if Sweden makes it, or after the playoffs should they not.

Potter was recently linked with the Celtic job. However, he has decided to extend his stay with the Swedish national team. Fabrizio Romano posted on X: "Potter signs new deal as Sweden national team head coach until June 2030." He will now have a chance at taking Sweden to Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup.

Graham Potter's tenure at West Ham did not go to plan

Potter was a highly rated coach when he was at Brighton & Hove Albion. However, failures with Chelsea and West Ham have led to him now being on the international scene.

Sweden is a fitting country for him to be in charge of. Potter had great success with Östersunds. He had three promotions with the Swedish club before taking them into the Europa League. This led to Swansea City taking a chance on him before he moved to Brighton.

Chelsea was too good an opportunity for Potter to turn down. However, it did not work out for him at Stamford Bridge. He then took over a West Ham side that was struggling under Julen Lopetegui, and could not improve them.

Potter was sacked by West Ham just five games into this Premier League season. The Hammers were 19th in the division. The Hammers are still in the relegation zone, but there is a belief that Nuno Espirito Santo can get them out of trouble.
