West Ham United signed Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea in January. He was not playing for the West London club, but has been a hit in East London. Disasi could join the Hammers permanently, but only if they stay in the Premier League.
Another Chelsea defender is also being linked with West Ham. However, he too will only join if the Hammers keep their top-flight status. Ekrem Konur posted on X: "Chelsea’s young right-back Josh Acheampong wants to leave due to lack of playing time. Bournemouth, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, West Ham & Tottenham → Premier League interest. FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund → monitoring from Europe."
Would Josh Acheampong be a good fit for West Ham United?
At right-back, West Ham currently has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters. Wan-Bissaka is the first choice, with Walker-Peters struggling to establish himself since he joined the club from Southampton.
Both Wan-Bissaka and Walker-Peters are now 28, so Acheampong, at 19, would be more of an option for the future. Acheampong rose through the ranks at Chelsea and made his debut at 17.
This season, Acheampong has played just 24 times in all competitions, scoring twice but with no assists. He has not featured in any of Chelsea's last four Premier League games. It is always going to be difficult for him to get game time at Stamford Bridge, as they have Reece James and Malo Gusto as right-back options. However, with James recently picking up a hamstring injury, Acheampong could soon feature more for the Blues.
Acheampong is primarily a right-back, but he can also play center-back and right midfield. His versatility would make him a good option for West Ham. However, with competition from other English and European clubs, it could be difficult for the Hammers to sign the player.
