Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with several clubs this summer, including Everton and Fenerbahce. Now Lazio are also interested in the West Ham United right-back. This is according to the Daily Mail.
Wan-Bissaka did not feature for West Ham in their first pre-season match of this summer against Southend United. Kyle Walker-Peters started the game that finished 1-1, with Ryan Battrum replacing him after 65 minutes.
It was not expected that Wan-Bissaka would be involved against Southend as he had just been at the World Cup with DR Congo. The defender impressed as he helped the African side reach the round of 32, where they lost to England.
The right-back position was a problem for the Three Lions at the World Cup. Reece James had injury problems, and Jarell Quansah was suspended after being sent off against Mexico. England eventually finished third after defeating France 6-4 in the bronze medal match.
Wan-Bissaka could have been a part of the England setup as he represented the Three Lions up to Under-21 level. He even had a call-up to the senior team in 2019, but had to withdraw due to injury. Wan-Bissaka was still a Manchester United player then, as he did not join the Hammers until 2024.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka's time at West Ham has been mixed
The defender impressed in his first season at the London Stadium, where he won Hammer of the Year. However, last season was mixed, and he lost his place to Walker-Peters at the end of the campaign.
Despite West Ham's relegation, Wan-Bissaka's stock has remained high with many interested parties. Italian football is known for its defensive astuteness, so it is a compliment of Lazio's interest. They are a club with links to West Ham, given Paolo Di Canio is a hero for both fanbases.
Lazio finished ninth in Serie A last season, so missed out on qualifying for European competition. They are now managed by former Italy player and boss Gennaro Gattuso.
Wan-Bissaka is only 28, so he should be in his prime. Lazio's current options at right-back are Adam Marusic and Manuel Lazzari, who are both now in their thirties. They also have Romano Floriani Mussolini, who has just returned from a loan spell at Cremonese. Therefore, Wan-Bissaka would expect to start for Lazio.
Interest from Everton appears to have cooled recently, and joining Fenerbahce would mean not playing in one of Europe's top five leagues. Therefore, Lazio would appear to be the most attractive option for Wan-Bissaka.
