Regardless if West Ham United stays in the Premier League or is relegated to the Championship, there will be a mass exodus of players this summer.
5 players who West Ham could send packing in the summer transfer window
1. James Ward-Prowse
Nuno Espirito Santo had James Ward-Prowse on loan from West Ham at Nottingham Forest when he was still the boss at the City Ground. However, he played just nine Premier League games for Forest before returning to the Hammers.
The now West Ham manager clearly has a problem with him, as when Nuno took over at the London Stadium, Ward-Prowse was again frozen out. He has been loaned out to Burnley for the second half of this season, but has been unable to help Scott Parker's side avoid relegation.
Ward-Prowse's contract at West Ham expires in 2027, but he does not have a future at the Hammers whilst Nuno remains in post. Perhaps a return to his former club Southampton, could be on the cards this summer.
2. Edson Alvarez
Another West Ham player who has been on loan elsewhere this season is Edson Alvarez. The Mexican has been on loan at Fenerbahce, but his campaign has been disrupted by injuries. This has led to him making just 17 appearances for the Super Lig side.
Alvarez is currently out with an ankle injury, so he faces a battle to be fit for the World Cup this summer, which his country is co-hosting. His career at West Ham appears to be over, and he is being linked with a return to his former club, Ajax.
3. Niclas Fullkrug
It never worked out for Niclas Fullkrug at West Ham, despite him arriving with a big reputation from Borussia Dortmund. In total, he scored just three goals in 29 games for the Hammers. The German is currently on loan at AC Milan. However, he has found the back of the net just once in 17 games for the Serie A side.
Milan is not expected to take up their option to sign him permanently. He is still contracted to West Ham until 2028, but there are reports that he could return to Germany this summer. Schalke and Wolfsburg are reportedly interested in Fullkrug.
4. Max Kilman
Max Kilman had a promising start to his West Ham career under Julen Lopetegui, who was his boss at Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, Kilman has lost confidence and has not featured in the Premier League since the end of January.
Dinos Mavropanos and Axel Disasi have formed a fantastic partnership at the back, which has made Kilamn surplus to requirements. There are no current links about where Kilman could go next. Perhaps a move abroad or a drop down to the Championship to get his career back on track.
5. Alphonse Areola
Alphonse Areola has lost his place as West Ham United's number one goalkeeper. Mads Hermanson has come in and kept his place in the Premier League since February. Areola has since only been used in cup games.
Areola will not be happy being sat on the bench, so a move away from the London Stadium is likely this summer. His experience of playing for the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and France makes him an attractive option for clubs. However, the only club he is being linked with right now is Besiktas.
