West Ham star midfielder Tomas Soucek believes that the club can show just how good they are when they take on Leeds United on Monday. If the Hammers beat the Yorkshire side, it will mean the club will finish another game week in the Champions League spots.

Despite going under the radar for most of the season, West Ham have become serious contenders to upset the established Premier League big-six. The match against Leeds could be the perfect opportunity to return to winning ways after a spirited defeat against league favourites Manchester City.

Last season when Soucek arrived at the club, the Hammers were in the midst of a relegation battle. With the help of the 26-year-old, West Ham survived and have pushed on this season to record heights.

West Ham’s Tomas Soucek thinks the team can get even better and seriously challenge for the Champions League positions in the Premier League.

"“It’s very different to last season, I was used to playing for titles, and when I arrived last season, we were in a big fight to avoid relegation. It was a big fight for me personally too as it would decide if I would stay here or not, so it was very hard, but I am very happy we changed our mentality in the summer, and we brought in some extra guys, and we are fighting for a great position.Tomas Soucek told West Ham media."

Thankfully Soucek remained a West Ham player and has been brilliant. The midfielder even encouraged the signing of Vladimir Coufal, who has also been superb for West Ham. However, Soucek wants the team to carry on their high-performance level for the rest of the season.

"“It is much better, but we must still be confident and carry on what we are doing because the teams in the top half of the table are very close together, so we have to be prepared for every game.“I accepted we could be better because I was here last season and after we left lockdown we started to improve very quickly. From the lockdown until the end of the season, we had maybe the seventh or eighth-best record in the Premier League and I wanted that to transfer to this season.Soucek has high hopes for the rest of the season."

The man of the moment is exactly right in wishing that the Hammers transferred post restart from into this season. West Ham have only lost seven games this season, winning 13 and drawing six. A record that no one would have predicted at the start of the season.

Soucek has been a big part of the club’s success and has even become an unlikely source for important goals. The Czech midfielder has already scored with times this season and is the club’s top scorer. It would not be surprising to see the fan favourite pick up the Hammer of the Year award in his debut season with West Ham.
