Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made an incredibly obvious statement about West Ham in regards to the race for the Champions League. The German manager has deemed the Hammers as rivals to his Reds team, as they try to get back into the top four of the Premier League.

When the manager was asked about competition for the top four in his team’s press conference, the main focus was on Chelsea being the current champions rivals. Klopp, however, was quick to point out that West Ham, Tottenham and Everton were also in the race.

"“There are other teams [as well as Chelsea] – West Ham, Tottenham will come again,” Klopp’s top four rivals."

To the average bystander, the statement would be considered very obvious that West Ham are a rival to Liverpool this season. Despite the Reds doing the double over them, the Hammers are currently above the Mersyside team by two points. Liverpool doesn’t even have a game in hand.

Liverpool have struggled this year for a few reasons; injures have affected the flow of the team, but it has meant for a more exciting season. West Ham, Leicester City and Everton all have real opportunities to break the traditional acceptance of the ‘big six’.

"“For the neutral fan it is exciting, for Liverpool supporters it is exciting as well – but maybe not in the way they want.”Klopp on this season’s drama"

Liverpool have not been the only team to drop off this term. Arsenal, Tottenham and arguably Chelsea have all performed worse than in the last campaign. This drop in quality has allowed other teams like Aston Villa and Leeds opportunities to break into the top ten.

West Ham have mostly been going under the radar with their success this season, but now they have been outed by Klopp, now others may start to notice. David Moyes has worked wonders at the club since his return to the club and has a chance of leading them to history with 12 games to go.
