Divine Mukasa had been part of the England Under-20s squad alongside other West Ham United youngsters. This included Airidas Golambeckis, Finlay Herrick, and Ezra Mayers. In a match against Italy U20s, Mukasa played up front and set up Shea Lacey's goal that sealed the 3-1 victory.
It was not such a good night for Golambeckis, who scored an own goal. Mayers was left on the bench, and Herrick was not involved. Now Mukasa is to join up with the Three Lions' U21s. England's official X account posted, "A YoungLions squad update as Divine Mukasa is added to the U21 squad, as three players withdraw through injury."
The players who have dropped out are Jamie Gittens of Chelsea and two Norwich City players, Kellen Fisher and Ben Chrisene. The England U21s have just beaten Kazakhstan 4-2. They play Slovakia in Stoke on Friday, then face Ireland in Cork the following Tuesday. Mukasa will be a great asset to Lee Carsley's side, as he can play central midfield, attacking midfield, and as a centre-forward.
Mukasa is only 19, and this will be the highest age group he has played for England. He will be in esteemed company on Carsley's side, with the likes of Jobe Bellingham, Ethan Nwaneri, and Josh Acheampong.

Also, former West Ham player Divin Mubama is part of the Young Lions squad. He was a teammate of Mukasa in Manchester City's U21s. Mubama played 18 times for West Ham's first team and scored against AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League. Mubama is now on loan at Southampton from City. He played as the Saints lost 4-1 to the Hammers in the EFL Cup this campaign.
Their parent club, City, is in hot water right now after being found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges of breaking the Premier League's financial fair play rules. There has been speculation that City's punishment could mean relegation. This could boost West Ham's chances of signing Mukasa permanently.
Mukasa is currently on a straight loan at West Ham with no option to buy him permanently. However, he has shone for the Hammers in the Championship, scoring twice in seven games this season. Mukasa is also from Newham and was with West Ham's academy before he went to City. Therefore, joining West Ham permanently would be fitting for the player.
The midfielder did well on loan at Leicester City in the Championship last season, too. He has previously been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and Ajax. However, he is reaping the rewards of getting game time in English football's second tier. The sky is the limit for Mukasa, and if he keeps on progressing, he could play for the England senior team.
