Divine Mukasa played for West Ham United up to the Under-21 level before departing for Manchester City. However, he is set to return to the Hammers.

Fabrizio Romano posted on X: "West Ham agree deal to sign Divine Mukasa from Man City, here we go! Deal done on straight loan, no buy option clause as WHUFC agreed terms today for 18 year old talent. Medical booked today after authorization from MCFC."

Mukasa is from Newham, so a return to his home borough is very fitting. He only played for City's first team six times, in which he did not score but did provide two assists. Mukasa is an attacking midfielder, so it will be difficult for him to break into their starting XI. Enzo Maresca already has Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, and now Claudio Echeverri in his position.

During the second half of last season, Mukasa was sent on loan to Leicester City. He played for the Foxes 15 times in the Championship, scoring twice and making three assists. However, he was unable to prevent Leicester from being relegated to League One.

Divine Mukasa has a lot of potential

At West Ham, Mukasa will be hoping to go up from the Championship rather than down. The midfielder is still only 18 and an England U19 player.

It remains to be seen how much game time the young player will get under Nuno Espírito Santo. However, his experience of English football's second tier will be invaluable.

The Hammers could do with an out-and-out attacking midfielder. They have James Ward-Prowse, Arne Engels, and Lewis Orford. However, they are central midfielders. Pablo is a center-forward, but he can be used as a second striker. He also had to come off injured in West Ham's opening Championship game of the season against Burnley.

Mukasa can also play central midfield, but the Hammers are well stacked in that position. He can also play upfront, which could be useful should anything happen to Taty Castellanos or new signing Joel Piroe.
