Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be leaving West Ham United following their relegation to the Championship. However, Max Aarons could replace him.
SportsBoom has reported that "Wolves are leading interest (in Aarons) alongside FC Porto, Villarreal CF and West Ham United." Wolves are set to sign Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United, which could pave the way for Aarons to join West Ham.
Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham in the summer of 2024, following David Moyes' departure. It would appear that the right-back would have been on Moyes' radar when he was at the Hammers. Wan-Bissaka has been linked with Everton, so he could soon get the opportunity to play under Moyes.
It was not as if Wan-Bissaka had a great season for the Hammers. He made 25 Premier League appearances without scoring, but did make three assists. Two of which came in a 3-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
His campaign was disrupted by illness, and he also missed games whilst at the Africa Cup of Nations with DR Congo. Wan-Bissaka is a versatile option as he can play right-midfield, center-back, as well as his favored full-back role.
At times, Kyle Walker-Peters started ahead of Wan-Bissaka. Walker-Peters was linked with Fiorentina in January, but there have not been any reports that he will be departing the Hammers this summer.
Would Max Aarons be a good fit for West Ham?
Aarons' experience of the Championship would be very good for West Ham. He has won the division twice with Norwich City. He also played in the Premier League for the Canaries and AFC Bournemouth, who are his current parent club.
The right-back was on loan at Valencia last year, but made just five appearances for the La Liga side. Interestingly, Villarreal and Porto are also mentioned as possible destinations for Aarons, despite his failure to adapt to playing abroad during his stint at Valencia.
This season, he has been with Rangers, where he made 35 appearances in all competitions. He did not make an assist, but did score the winner in a Scottish Premiership match against Livingston.
Like Wan-Bissaka, Aarons is also versatile; he can play right-back, right-midfield, and left-back. This could be useful for the Hammers, as current left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf has been heavily linked with a departure from the club. Harrison Burrows from Sheffield United is a left back that West Ham is also interested in.
Rangers do not have the option to sign Aarons permanently, so he will likely return to Bournemouth, where he is contracted until 2029. It does not look like he has a future at the Cherries, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season. Therefore, a transfer to the Hammers could make sense for the former England Under-21 international.
