West Ham United will need to replace most of its current strikers this summer. One who which could be incoming is Eliezer Mayenda from Sunderland AFC.
According to Football Insider, "Sunderland will consider selling striker Eliezer Mayenda this summer amid fresh interest from West Ham United."
Taty Castellanos was West Ham's best striker last season, and he has been linked with Everton. Pablo failed to impress, and it remains to be seen if any clubs take a chance on him. There is also uncertainty as to whether Callum Wilson will remain at the club with his contract expiring at the end of the month.
Niclas Füllkrug is also set to return to the Hammers following his loan at AC Milan. However, he is also set to depart, with interest from multiple Bundesliga sides.
Who is Sunderland's Eliezer Mayenda?
Mayenda was born in Spain and is a current Under-21 player for the country. He began his career in France with Sochaux, for whom he played in Ligue 2. This led to a transfer to Sunderland, who were in the Championship at the time.
In order to gain experience, Mayenda was sent on loan to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. He broke through with the Black Cats in the 2024/25 season, where he scored eight goals with five assists in 37 regular-season Championship games.
Mayenda then scored twice in three Championship playoff matches, including in the final against Sheffield United. This helped secure Sunderland's return to the Premier League. However, he could not cut it in English soccer's top flight.
The striker found the back of the net just twice in 20 Premier League games last season. Brian Brobbey, who was signed from Ajax, became Régis Le Bris's first-choice striker.
A drop back down to the Championship could be very good for Mayenda's development. He knows he can score goals in the division, and this could reboot his career. His experience of gaining promotion with Sunderland would also be very beneficial to the Hammers. Nuno Espirito Santo's side will be looking to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Mayenda is also versatile; he can also play on the left and right wings as well as through the middle. This could be very useful to West Ham as they could soon lose top wingers, including Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, in the upcoming transfer window.
