West Ham United have been linked with multiple players with English Football League experience recently. They are reportedly interested in Leyton Orient striker Dom Ballard.

The Daily Mail has revealed that "West Ham and Werder Bremen are weighing up a move for Leyton Orient striker Dom Ballard. The 21-year-old scored 23 goals in League One last season for Orient and is also attracting interest from Championship sides Swansea City and Bristol City.

"Werder Bremen have also watched him this season and are considering luring him to Germany but the prospect of West Ham is understood to be particularly appealing."

It would not be far for Ballard to move to if he is switching from Orient to the Hammers. The O's even had a proposition to become tenants of the London Stadium. Werder would offer Ballard the chance to play top-flight soccer. However, they could be in for another relegation battle in the Bundesliga after narrowly avoiding the drop last season.

West Ham offers Ballard the best possibility of winning the Championship, ahead of Swansea and Bristol City. The Hammers were in the Premier League for 14 seasons, and are expected to bounce straight back up in the next campaign. Swansea and Bristol City finished 11th and 12th respectively in the Championship last season.

Who is Leyton Orient's Dom Ballard?

Ballard came through the ranks at Southampton and played twice for them in the Premier League. He also scored for the Saints in a 3-0 EFL Cup win over Cambridge United.

Whilst with Southampton, he was sent on loan to Reading, Blackpool, and Cambridge. He competed in League One with all three sides. The third tier of English soccer is where he has made a name for himself with his permanent switch to Orient last year.

The striker has a lot of potential, having represented England up to the Under-20 level. However, it is unlikely that he would lead the line for West Ham next season. It would be expected that he would be a player for the future.

Taty Castellanos and Pablo are expected to leave West Ham this summer. Whilst Callum Wilson's future is uncertain, with his contract expiring at the end of the month. The Hammers will likely bring in additional strikers with more experience than Ballard. West Ham cannot afford to pin their hopes on promotion back to the Premier League on a young striker with no Championship experience.
