Adama Traoré was unable to prevent West Ham United from being relegated. However, he could be set for a move to Benfica.

Bola Na Rede has reported (translated from Portuguese), "Traoré has been offered to Benfica by his agent... If Marco Silva becomes Benfica's next coach, the possibility of Adama Traoré joining the club would increase significantly."

Silva was Traoré's boss at Fulham, and he is set to depart the west London side and take over at Benfica. The Portuguese side needs a new manager, with Jose Mourinho to take over at Real Madrid once again.

Under Silva at Fulham, Traoré played 79 times, scoring four goals with 13 assists. Traore has played more games for Nuno Espirito Santo at both Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham.

Traoré joined the Hammers in January, with the hope that his pace and power could help the club survive relegation. However, the former Spain international played just 12 times without scoring, but did make two assists. Although both the goals he assisted came in FA Cup matches.

Adama Traore's move to West Ham did not work out

His contract with West Ham expires at the end of the month, so he will leave on a free transfer. He is only 30, and it is highly unlikely that another Premier League side would take a chance on him. Therefore, a move to Benfica makes sense.

He has spent the majority of his career in English soccer, with spells at Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, as well as the aforementioned clubs. However, Traoré came through the ranks at Barcelona and spent a loan spell with them in 2022.

In total for Barca, Traoré scored once and made four assists in 21 games. The Portuguese league is of a lesser standard than the Premier League and La Liga. Therefore, Traoré should thrive in it. He also played in the Championship for Boro and Villa. However, it is unlikely that the Hammers will want him around for their campaign in the division next season. This is despite the fact that Nuno is staying on as the club's manager.

Benfica finished third in the Liga Portugal last season, which meant they are set for Europa League qualifiers. Traoré has experience in European competition with both Barca and Wolves. The Eagles could do with a new right winger due to Gianluca Prestianni being set to miss two of their next European matches due to his suspension for abusing Vinícius Júnior.
