West Ham United have announced their retained list and have revealed that Adama Traoré and Łukasz Fabiański are to depart following the conclusion of their contracts. Also, Axel Disasi is set to return to Chelsea after being on loan at the club.
West Ham also revealed that many development squad players would be departing. A statement on the club's official website read, "West Ham United would like to thank all those players departing for their hard work and commitment during their careers in Claret and Blue and wish them the very best in the future."
There was a rumor that West Ham would want to keep Traoré on. However, this did not seem such a good idea as he contributed little since arriving from Fulham in January. Traoré may also have a better option, as he has been linked with Benfica. His former Fulham boss, Marco Silva, is set to replace Jose Mourinho at the Portuguese side.
This is not the first time that Fabiański has been released by West Ham. At the end of the previous campaign, he was released before re-joining after Wes Foderingham left for Aris Limassol. However, the Polish goalkeeper missed almost the entirety of the season just passed with a back injury. At 41 years old, Fabiański will likely retire.
Disasi could have stayed on at West Ham if the club retained its Premier League status. He has rebuilt his reputation after being frozen out by Chelsea. He is still expected to leave the Blues; he has been linked with Leeds United and Benfica, too.
Who are West Ham going to replace these players with?
What is important is that West Ham keep Jarrod Bowen as a right-winger. It would also be great for fan morale to keep the club captain. However, the player may feel he needs to leave for a Premier League club so he can get back into the England squad. If Bowen departs, then the Hammers will desperately need a new winger, and if he does not, then they will still need one to replace Traoré.
The Hammers were linked with Nicola Zalewski in January. However, it could be a stretch that he would join West Ham from Serie A side Atalanta with the Hammers being relegated. Solly March is departing Brighton & Hove Albion this summer, and could be a realistic option for West Ham.
If West Ham wants to sign another experienced keeper to replace Fabianski, then Stefan Ortega, who is leaving Nottingham Forest, could be an option.
West Ham will need to recruit a number of center-backs. Dinos Mavropanos has been linked with Borussia Dortmund, and it is unlikely that Jean-Clair Todibo, who has fallen out with Nuno Espirito Santo, will play for the club again. Also, many fans do not rate Max Kilman, but he could do a job for the club in the Championship.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis of Southampton has been linked with West Ham. He helped the Saints reach the Championship playoffs this season. However, they were kicked out of the competition for spying. Also, Dylan Lawlor, who starred for Cardiff City in League One in the last campaign, is an option for the Hammers.
