West Ham didn't manage to resume their Premier League season on a high note after the September international break but made sure to end it on a high note going into the October international break. This massive 4-1 win over Ipswich Town was arguably West Ham's best performance in the new year and was significant in a unique way. Since the second half of the previous season, West Ham have been a rather inconsistent side and struggle to take some points from the match after conceding an early goal.

In this home fixture, Michail Antonio scored the first goal for West Ham in the first minute but Julen Lopetegui's side conceded the equaliser after five minutes due to the defence letting Ipswich Town's Liam Delap unmarked near the box. As has been the case with West Ham in the previous ten months, the Hammers have conceded a lot of goals after giving away their lead and have struggled to make a comeback and win the game. However Julen Lopetegui's side showed much resilience both in attack and defence, and successfully managed to avoid Ipswich Town from taking the lead which and then, star forward Mohammed Kudus gave the Hammers a great reward by scoring the 2-1 goal.

After half-time, West Ham took advantage of their 2-1 lead and scored two more goals to reduce any chances of the visitors attempting to make any comeback in the match. This was a stark contrast in approach as compared to last season, where West Ham would become a more defensive side whenever they got the lead. This led to the Hammers conceding many last-minute goals which resulted in West Ham dropping a lot of points towards the end of the league season.

Therefore, a more encouraging performance in the home fixture was truly significant for West Ham and the fans who were yet to see their club pick a home win in the Premier League this season. Further this win should be set as a perfect example by Julen Lopetegui's side to remain inspired throughout the season and increase their efforts in both attack and defence even when they aren't in a comfortable match-winning position in the Premier League.
