Many of West Ham United's players will leave this summer due to the club's relegation. Soungoutou Magassa could be reunited with his former manager, Adi Hütter, at Eintracht Frankfurt.
This is according to the German outlet BILD, which published an article linking Magassa with the Bundesliga side.
Hütter was Magassa's coach at AS Monaco. The Frenchman played 53 times for Hütter, which is more than he has for any other manager. Magassa's form for the Ligue 1 side led to his transfer to West Ham. However, his move to the Hammers has not worked out. He played 26 times this season, scoring just once, which came in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
The defensive midfielder is only 22 and still has a lot of potential. He would not want to play in the Championship, although at 6 ft 2, he could handle the division's physicality.
Would Entracht Frankfurt be a good fit for Soungoutou Magassa?
Frankfurt were interested in the player before he joined West Ham last year. At the time, he was also being linked with the likes of Atalanta, AS Roma, and Nottingham Forest. Whilst in January, there was reported interest from Galatasaray and Fiorentina. Therefore, the former France Under-21 player will likely still have options this summer.
Hütter, who has recently been appointed as Frankfurt's manager, clearly trusts Magassa. This is his second spell in charge of the Bundesliga club, so he knows them well. He has got the best out of Magassa before, so he will likely be able to do it again.
Frankfurt finished eighth in the Bundesliga last season, which was just outside the European qualifying places. Hütter will have the target of getting them back to competing on the continent.
Magassa will get game time at Frankfurt, which he lacked at West Ham. Their only current defensive midfielder is Ellyes Skhiri, who is now 31. Therefore, Magassa could be the long-term solution to the position for the German side.
