Relegation could see West Ham forced to sell star player

Jarrod Bowen could be a high-profile exit from West Ham United this summer.

West Ham United suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat to Liverpool today, which is a blow to their chances of surviving in the Premier League. Relegation would inevitably cause a mass exodus from the club, and even the captain would likely leave.

TEAMtalk has reported that "Jarrod Bowen’s commitment to West Ham United is being tested... he views his future as ‘very open’, with Manchester United and Tottenham among his potential suitors in the summer."

The situation would be very similar to when Scott Parker left for Tottenham Hotspur in 2011 following West Ham's relegation. However, he was joining a good Spurs side that was doing well under Harry Redknapp.

Joining Tottenham from West Ham is never a popular move

The current Tottenham side is in a relegation battle with West Ham. Despite their success in Europe recently, Spurs have been very poor domestically. It is difficult to see Bowen in another shirt than a West Ham shirt, given his ties to the club. However, it would be devastating for Hammers fans to see him play for Spurs in what would be a very unpopular move. Even Parker was booed when he faced West Ham playing for Tottenham.

If he were to join Manchester United, that would be less of a blow to West Ham fans. United are looking good since Michael Carrick took charge. Bowen is also an England international, and if West Ham were to be relegated, then he cannot expect to continue to be picked by Thomas Tuchel if he is playing in the Championship.
