Why West Ham should start Kudus in the central playmaker role
In the four games in the new season, West Ham have shown some progress made while adapting to the new style of football. Manager Julen Lopetegui has focused on improving the defence and having more ball possession in every match. However, the former UEFA Europa League winning manager needs to make an important change to boost the attack and score more goals.
This season, West Ham have scored five goals in four matches with three scored by Jarrod Bowen and one goal each from Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta. This shows that the Hammers aren't creating much goal scoring chances inside the final third, which has resulted in Julen Lopetegui's side struggling to score more goals in a match. One of the reasons for this is the fact that aside from his scoring his penalty on the opening matchday, Paqueta hasn't contributed much in the build up play.
Why West Ham should start Kudus in the central playmaker role
Against Manchester City, the 27-year-old gave away posession several times in the match, and wasn't making much key passes. Although he has completed the most progressive passes this season for West Ham, he needs to improve his efficiency in front of goal. Therefore, manager Julen Lopetegui should bring Mohammed Kudus in his preferred central playmaker role alongside Paqueta, which will help him in creating more big chances and playing several quick passes with Kudus.
This will also allow new signing Cryscencio Summerville to play on the left wing, where he has thrived previously at Leeds United. Summerville has an outstanding pace and his clever dribbling will help Niclas Fullkrug, Paqueta and Kudus get more great chances inside the box. With this tactical change, the attack will be improved massively with players making more runs inside the box and as a result, will score more goals throughout the season.
After the international break, West Ham will play Fulham in the Premier League which will be a great opportunity to implement this new lineup.
