West Ham want to sign a new midfielder

Currently, West Ham are preparing to face Aston Villa in the first matchday of the new Premier League season. Under new manager Julen Lopetegui, the Hammers want to start the new season on a high note.

Although West Ham have assembled a quality squad, the club can still look to add a few more players to the squad in this transfer window. For that, West Ham need to sell a few players to make way for new signings.

West Ham want to sign a new midfielder

In the squad, there are a few players who can leave West Ham in this transfer window. Now, in terms of new signings, West Ham want a new striker along with a new box-to-box midfielder to improve the squad. For the striker position, West Ham have set their sights on signing Roma forward Tammy Abraham.

Now, Sky Sports have reported that the Hammers also want to sign a new central midfielder as well. West Ham sold Flynn Downes to Southampton and currently have only James Ward-Prowse as the central midfielder in the squad.

Thus, West Ham are considering signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler. Soler has been one of the best central midfielders in La Liga while playing for Valencia and won the Copa Del Rey in 2019 as well.

However, since joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, Soler has made 63 appearances for the club scoring eight goals and winning the French league twice. Last season, Soler's playing time was reduced following young midfielder Warren Zaire Emery's brilliant performances. This summer, the French club have signed Joao Neves as well which will further reduce Soler's playing time next season.

Hence, the 27-year-old is keen on a transfer move this summer and would like to join West Ham. At West Ham, manager Julen Lopetegui wants a box-to-box midfielder like Soler to help Guido Rodriguez and Edson Alvarez in defensive midfield and create chances for the forwards to score more goals.

Paris Saint-Germain signed Soler for £18 million and will demand around £15 million for Soler. Hence, West Ham should sign Soler and bolster their midfield ahead of the upcoming season.
