In this summer transfer window, West Ham and Juventus have already been involved in the race to sign 24-year-old France international Jean-Clair Todibo. While the Serie A side were expected to complete the signing of the former Barcelona defender, the Hammers quickly moved forward to secure the services of the Nice star, who has established himself as one of the best young centre-backs in European football. Now, the two sides could again enter the race to sign another Ligue 1 star.

According to a report from TuttoJuve, West Ham are interested in signing Juventus transfer target Jonathan David from French club Lille next season. West Ham's need for a young and prolific striker stems from their shortcomings in the attack as they have only managed to find the back of the net six times in the Premier League. New signing Niclas Fullkrug is recovering from his injury while Michail Antonio and Danny Ings haven't been consistent performers in front of goal since last season.

Thus, an in-form striker like Jonathan David can solve West Ham's goalscoring issues as he scored 26 times for Lille last season and has gone strength to strength this season as well with five goals in six league matches. Moreover, David's impressive pace and his brilliant finishing makes him a really great option for West Ham, who were interested in signing a striker of a similar profile in this transfer window. However, the Hammers will need to spend around £50 million to sign the 24-year-old and they will need to sell a few players to raise transfer funds for this move.

Also, Juventus are playing in the UEFA Champions League this season, which could be a deciding factor in David's decision to prefer a move to the Serie A side instead. Now it remains to be seen whether the Hammers will try to bring in a new centre-forward in the January transfer window given that they brought nine new players this season.
