The recent few weeks have been a struggle for West Ham in terms of signing new players. However, they receive a massive injury boost regarding the fitness of a star player. Last month, in the opening matchday of the Copa America 2024, West Ham and Mexico star Edson Alvarez picked up a hamstring injury which ended his Copa America campaign.
The initial reports stated that the midfielder would be out for around six to eight weeks meaning he would have to sit out the first 5-6 matchdays for the new season. This was a concern for the Hammers to go into the new season without a proper holding midfielder.
West Ham receive massive injury boost with the return of star player
But, as a surprise Alvarez has joined the West Ham preseason camp in Florida before the original return date. Alvarez's recovery has been going very well and he is ahead of his recovery schedule. This comes as a massive injury boost to West Ham who can now start their season opener against Aston Villa at the London Stadium with a fully fit Alvarez.
As a matter of fact, Alvarez was Tim Steidten's first signing at West Ham and his £34 million transfer fee has proved to be a bargain. Ever since joining West Ham from Ajax last year, Edson Alvarez has been an integral part of the Hammers midfield. The 26-year-old is a natural ball winner and his high pressing and passing fit well into Julen Lopetegui's new system.
Alvarez is currently doing individual training and in around a week will return to full team training as well. Thus, West Ham can focus now on signing their top transfer targets which include a new striker, a new centre-back and a new right-back.
