West Ham could have signed Tammy Abraham in the transfer window

Although West Ham have made nine new signings this summer, the Hammers could have brought their preferred transfer target. While the midfield and defence has been improved, there is one position in the attack which needed reinforcement. The Hammers were interested to bring in a young centre forward as proven West Ham striker Michail Antonio is 34-years-old and struggled with form and fitness last season.
Therefore, West Ham were willing to sign Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, however, Villa rejected the Hammers offer and West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug instead. Although Fullkrug is a quality striker and scores a lot of goals, he is 31-years-old which means that after playing for a few seasons, West Ham will need to find a long term replacement for Fullkrug. Thus, after completing other priority signings, West Ham considered the idea to sign Roma forward Tammy Abraham.

Abraham was also said to be open to a transfer, and a return to the Premier League after three years looked highly likely for the former Chelsea forward. However, West Ham needed to sell a few players to raise transfer funds after making several quality signings. Players like Maxwel Cornet, James Ward Prowse, Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma were expected to be sold, but, they left West Ham on a season long loan move in this transfer window.
Therefore, West Ham could only bring Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain on a loan move on the final day of the transfer window. Roma also wanted to sell Abraham, but, the English forward joined Milan on a loan transfer instead. If West Ham could have sold a few players on a permanent basis, they would have signed 26-year-old Abraham, who has performed well in his debut season at Roma before being sidelined with injuries in the last two seasons.
Now, it remains to be seen if the Hammers decide to sign Abraham next year if he performs well at Milan this season.
