Defence has been one of the areas that needs much improvement in the West Ham squad. Last season, West Ham conceded 74 goals in the Premier League which meant that the Hammers finished ninth and couldn't secure European football for the 2024/25 season.
Julen Lopetegui's side added £40 million summer signing Max Kilman from Wolves last month. But the club needs another top quality centre back to partner Kilman and a new right back to provide more defensive stability to the squad. Regarding the right back position, West Ham are negotiating with Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and hope to finalize the signing of Wan-Bissaka quickly.
West Ham are interested in signing £17 million centre back to partner Kilman
And recently, a new report from Calcio Mercato has revealed that West Ham are interested in signing French club Toulouse centre back Logan Costa this summer. The 23-year-old has been a key part of the Toulouse side that won the French Cup in the 2022/23 season.
With this, Toulouse qualified for the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 season and registered a memorable 3-2 win over Liverpool in the group stages. Last season, Costa made 31 appearances in the French league and helped Toulouse to a mid table finish at eleventh.
At just 23-years-old, Logan Costa is a world class talent with a high potential who is very quickly entering into his prime. A report from L'Equipe claims that the French side will demand a fee of around £17 million to sell Costa to any potential suitors.
Further, Costa is a young defender whose tall height and physicality along with his game awareness will suit well into Julen Lopetegui's possession based tactics. Plus, he can partner Kilman well as he put up a heroic performance in the famous win over Premier League giants Liverpool last season in the Europa League.
Thus, it remains to be seen if West Ham submit an official bid to sign the defender. Also with just two weeks before the Premier League season kicks off, West Ham need to finalize the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as another centre back.
