West Ham announce Jarrod Bowen as new captain

Last week, French centre back Kurt Zouma left West Ham after three seasons at the club. While the Hammers have signed new centre back Jean-Clair Todibo, the club needed a new captain as well.

Summer signing Max Kilman and star forward Jarrod Bowen were reported to be highly likely to lead West Ham in the upcoming season. In the recent preseason win over Celta Vigo, Julen Lopetegui named Max Kilman as the captain which suggested that the English centre back will be the new Hammers captain.

West Ham announce Jarrod Bowen as new captain

However, West Ham have now officially announced star forward Jarrod Bowen as the new captain. Since joining the Hammers from Hull City midway through the 2019/20 season, Bowen has made 202 appeareances for West Ham scoring 60 goals and providing 39 assists. One of his memorable moments came when Bowen scored the last minute winner against Fiorentina that led West Ham to win the UEFA Conference League 2023.

In his four years at the club, Bowen has been a brilliant player for the club. Speaking to the club's official website, Bowen said,

"Since I’ve been here it’s just been an upward trajectory in what we’ve done on the pitch."

Last year, Bowen signed a new seven year contract at West Ham until the summer of 2030. Recently, Bowen again revealed his dream to become a West Ham legend, saying,

"I said then that I want to stay here for the rest of my life and I haven’t come off that page. If I can go down as a legend here in years to come, that would be great."

Under new manager Julen Lopetegui, West Ham will face Aston Villa in the first match of the new Premier League season. Now, West Ham and Jarrod Bowen are looking forward to a new season to improve as a team and perform well throughout the upcoming season.
