The reason why West Ham should offload £17 million David Moyes signing
- David Moyes signed £17 million Maxwel Cornet from Burnley in 2022.
- Cornet has struggled for playing time at West Ham.
West Ham are busy in the transfer window this summer. An underwhelming ninth place finish has highlighted a lot of gaps in the team. While, the club are working to bring in a new striker, a new right-back and a new centre-back, there are expected to be some outgoings as well.
The reason why West Ham should offload £17 million David Moyes signing
Currently, there are a handful of players who were deemed to be a shrewd signing however they have largely been unconvincing on the pitch. One of them is 27-year-old winger, Maxwel Cornet. The jet-heeled forward was signed for £17 million from Burnley in 2022 by former manager, David Moyes but has struggled to justify his transfer fee.
The Ivory Coast international only played seven games in the Premier League last season, scoring one goal. Overall, the former Lyon star has played less than 1000 minutes of first team football since arriving two years ago. Despite, largely used as a cover option for Jarrod Bowen by David Moyes, it looked certain that he can take a big role this season when manager Julen Lopetegui assured that he will give chances to everyone in the preseason.
But that doesn't look like happening with Maxwel Cornet struggling against Dag and Red FC. This is a big concern for the Hammers as if Cornet isn't able to play against a National League club, then, it would be very difficult for him to take on Premier League's defences.
However, selling Cornet won't be easy either as the winger has barely played top-flight football in the last two seasons. Thus, a possible loan to a Championship side with a view to more playing time or a potential transfer to any interested club would be the right decision both for Maxwel Cornet and West Ham.
