Should West Ham have signed Andre in this transfer window

West Ham have done some great transfers in this summer transfer window, signing several quality players for their squad. In terms of outgoings, the Hammers have managed to keep their top players at the London Stadium this season. Earlier in this transfer window, star midfielder Edson Alvarez was attracting interest from top European clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich regarding a transfer move.
But a move didn't happen as Alvarez picked up an injury in the Copa America 2024 and the Hammers didn't enter into any negotiations to sell him. Further, West Ham signed Guido Rodriguez to bolster their defensive midfield alongside Alvarez and help in winning more ball possession throughout the match. However, they were interested in signing a Brazil star for the defensive midfield role as well, who later joined Premier League club Wolves from Brazilian side Fluminense.
Should West Ham have signed Andre in this transfer window
Recently, in the international break, Brazil faced Ecuador in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and Andre was the star performer for Brazil as they took a 1-0 win. Andre completed 55 out of 58 passes and even gave a key pass inside the final third as well. His incredible displays have left West Ham fans wondering whether the Hammers should have decided to sign him from Fluminense in this transfer window.
Andre is an athletic holding midfielder and possesses great recovery pace to help the defence and win the possession in his own half. Further, he is great on the ball with his passing which makes him a great candidate to partner Alvarez in the Hammers midfield. Also, if Alvarez leaves West Ham in the coming seasons, Andre can play in the defensive midfielder role with Carlos Soler and Mohammed Kudus creating chances for West Ham inside the final third.
However, he is a Wolves player now and West Ham have signed Guido Rodriguez, who is an experienced defensive midfielder and has been performing well in the first four matches of the new season.
