Real Sociedad sign West Ham defender on loan
West Ham have completed their transfer activity in terms of incomings, with nine new signings made to bolster Julen Lopetegui's squad. On the other hand, a few departures are expected as the Hammers have a lot of players, who have struggled with form and fitness at the London Stadium in the recent few seasons. After the loan transfer of James Ward Prowse to Nottingham Forest, another player is leaving West Ham on a loan transfer in this transfer window.
Nayef Aguerd has been the subject of a transfer away from West Ham this summer due to his struggles to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, since arriving from French club Rennes two years ago. Thus, a return to the French League seemed highly likely as Lille expressed an interest in signing the centre back to replace Leny Yoro. Atletico Madrid were also huge admirers of Aguerd, but another La Liga team has secured the signing of Nayef Aguerd on a season long loan transfer.
Real Sociedad sign West Ham defender on loan
Real Sociedad have brought in Aguerd to replace their UEFA Euro 2024 winning defender Robin Le Normand, who joined Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid earlier in this transfer window. Trusted journalist, Santi Aouna, reported this transfer saying,
"FULL AGREEMENT ALMOST reached between West Ham and Real Sociedad for Nayef Aguerd
- Santi Aouna
Loan fee around of €2m + bonuses.
No option buy included
"
Similar to the James Ward Prowse deal, Aguerd has also joined Real Sociedad on a season long loan transfer from West Ham. At Real Sociedad, Aguerd needs to perform well after two underwhelming seasons in the Premier League. As for West Ham, they currently have three centre backs, Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos in their squad, thus, they are sending Aguerd on a loan move with a view that he gets more playing time and throughout the season, becomes a reliable defender for the La Liga team, so that they decide to sign him on a permanent basis next season.
