West Ham started their new Premier League season with a 2-1 home defeat against Unai Emery's Aston Villa. Again the defence conceded an early goal which gave Villa the momentum to win the match.
From the match, it becomes clear that West Ham need to upgrade their squad in the coming seasons. The Hammers have an already ageing squad and the club needs to find replacements for some of the experienced players. While, Jean-Clair Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been signed this summer to bolster the centre back and the right back position, there is a need for a young left back as well.
Manchester United enter the race to sign West Ham defensive transfer target
Currently, Julen Lopetegui's side have Emerson Palmieri and Aaron Cresswell as the available left backs. Further, Cresswell is 33 years old and now struggles to defend against world class Premier League forwards with blistering pace. Thus, Emerson is the only left back at West Ham who can defend as well as create chances for the forwards.
However, Emerson is 30 years old and if he is injured during the season, West Ham will have to play Cresswell as the left back. Thus, the Hammers need a young left back as well. Therefore, West Ham have been interested in signing Fenerbahce fullback Ferdi Kadioglu in this transfer window.
Fenerbahce want around £30 million for the versatile defender who can play as a left back as well as a centre back. Now, according to reports from Takvim, Premier League side Manchester United have entered the race for Kadioglu. English fullback Luke Shaw is currently injured, so Manchester United want to sign a new fullback.
Thus, United want to bring the 24-year-old versatile left back to the Old Trafford this summer. West Ham have already made eight signings in this transfer window and thus, won't sign Kadioglu this summer. Further, the Hammers want to sign Tammy Abraham and a new box-to-box midfielder to improve their squad.
