Recently, French magazine, L'Equipe has reported that Ligue 1 side Lille are considering a move for struggling West Ham defender. The defender is none other than Nayef Aguerd who was signed by the Hammers for £30 million from Rennes two years ago.

A few days ago, Atletico Madrid were also said to register an interest in the 28-year-old as they look to replace their long serving centre-back Stefan Savic who left Atletico this summer. The defender is highly regarded by Diego Simeone's side who reportedly have kept him as first choice David Hancko's alternative.

Now, the recent reports states that Lille are keen to sign Aguerd whom they view as an ideal replacement for Leny Yoro who departed for Manchester United in a deal that could rise to €70 million in total. Plus, new Lille manager, Bruno Genesio who replaced current AC Milan head coach, Paulo Fonseca wants to reunite with Aguerd.

Genesio was in charge of Rennes during Aguerd's stay at the French club and wants to sign him after becoming the manager of French club Lille. This comes as a massive boost for West Ham as Aguerd struggled to adapt to the Premier League's physicality and couldn't become a starter in his two years under David Moyes.

If West Ham can recover their initial £30 million to sign Aguerd, the club should sell the defender. Now, with Lille willing to sign him, West Ham can raise funds from selling Aguerd which could make the necessary deals like Jhon Duran and Aaron Wan-Bissaka happen.

Moreover, a return to the French league makes sense for Aguerd to take his career back on track where he starred previously with Rennes.
