Recently, prolific West Ham forward Michail Antonio became the first Hammers star to reach 100 goal contributions in the Premier League. The 34-year-old achieved this significant milestone with an assist on Tomas Soucek's equalising goal against Brentford in the 1-1 draw. However, Antonio has been far from his level best since the beginning of the last season despite being the leading goalscorer for the Hammers, since arriving from Nottingham Forest nine years ago.
Thus, Antonio was the subject of a transfer rumour away from West Ham in this summer, with Brazilian side Gremio offering a £2 million transfer fee to secure the services of the Jamaica international. On top of that, Premier League side Wolves were also interested in Antonio, but West Ham didn't involved in any transfer talks regarding the 34-year-old's departure. However, Antonio is into the final year of his West Ham contract and is highly likely to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of this season.
Hammers open to listen to offers for prolific forward in January
Thus, West Ham have a chance in the January transfer window to get a significant transfer fee for Antonio and the Hammers are willing to listen to offers for the centre-forward according to GIVEMESPORT. While new signing Niclas Fullkrug is currently injured, the former Borussia Dortmund star is expected to return after the upcoming international break, thus, Antonio won't get much playing time this season. Also, the Hammers have Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, who can play as a centre-forward as well, thus, West Ham will have enough quality and squad depth in the front three without Antonio.
Several Premier League teams such as Southampton, Ipswich Town and Wolves may enter the race to sign Antonio, given their struggles in front of goal this season. Also, a return to Nottingham Forest isn't ruled out where he will be reunited with on-loan West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse, and will be tempted to join Nottingham Forest and help them to a mid-table finish in the league season. Now it remains to be seen whether Antonio leaves West Ham in the January transfer window or decides to stay at the club until the end of the season.
