Towards the end of the last season, West Ham's inconsistent performances led them to a ninth place finish in the Premier League. A lot of West Ham fans were unconvincing of David Moyes's tactics as the Hammers couldn't qualify for European football this season.

Thus, David Moyes left West Ham in May after the 3-1 defeat against Manchester City. After that, West Ham were interested in a lot of top managers including Ruben Amorim. However, the Hammers presented former Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui as the new West Ham manager.

In the transfer window, West Ham have massively improved their squad by making eight new signings. Also, the Hammers are set to face Aston Villa in the first match of the new Premier League season. Now the focus is on Julen Lopetegui who is starting his first season as West Ham manager.

Recently, former Hammers striker Dean Ashton gave his opinion on Julen Lopetegui. Speaking about the former UEFA Europa League winning manager, Ashton said,

"They are going to be looking at the style, of course they are. That was a big talking point when Moyes was there because clearly David was successful, but it was the style that fans fell out of love with. I think the jury will be out until we see it."

Julen Lopetegui previously managed Wolves in the Premier League and helped them avoid relegation. However at West Ham, the aim is to achieve a top six finish to return to playing European football. Also, with eight signings, West Ham fans expect the club to perform well this season.

Now, West Ham need to start the season on a high note against Aston Villa and continue a winning momentum in the Premier League.
