Thus, reporting West Ham's interest in Kante, Fabrizio Romano said,

Direct talks took place between clubs and with player's camp.
Al Ittihad current position: no intention to sell Kanté, considered as key player and top professional"."
In 2023, as part of a major squad rebuild, Chelsea let Kante leave as a free agent to join Saudi Pro League Al-Ittihad. A Chelsea legend, the 33-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down as he gave another best campaign for France despite not going all the way.
The Frenchman is well familiarised with Premier League and European football. Thus, his signing will transform the squad with a winning mentality which is what West Ham need in their aim for a top six spot in the Premier League.
However, prising him away from the cash rich Saudi Pro League is a stretch of a task in itself. Also, does spending a huge amount on Kante's salary worth it considering he is 33 and may retire in 1-2 seasons.
Plus considering his injury record which saw him miss seven months in the 2022/23 season just before his Chelsea contract ended. This confirms the need for a player with a rather great injury history. Well, it remains to be seen whether West Ham decide to move for N'Golo Kante or Scott McTominay or someone else to hold the back four at the base of the midfield.
