Edson Alvarez stays with the West Ham squad during the international break
In the international break, several West Ham stars will represent their nations in the UEFA Nations League and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. In these two weeks, the Hammers will try to improve their overall game in the team training with the players that are staying with the club. Now, one of the star players will also stay with the Hammers squad instead of representing his national side this month.
Star midfielder Edson Alvarez will not feature for the Mexico national team for their two international friendlies against New Zealand and Canada. This has been a surprising decision which several Mexico fans expecting him to play for the national team for the first time since picking up an injury in the first match of the Copa America 2024. Last month, the 26-year-old joined the West Ham squad before the start of the season after being very close to full fitness.
Alvarez has started for West Ham in the last two games and has been decent with his performances as he is trying to get back to his top form. One of the reasons for him not featuring for Mexico this month can be that Alvarez doesn't want to play a lot of matches currently in order to avoid another injury. Further, the two matches are international friendlies and Mexico are expected to take wins against New Zealand and Canada in this international break.
Therefore, Alvarez is gradually trying to get his momentum going and next month will highly likely feature for the Mexico national team in the next international break. Meanwhile, West Ham will face Fulham next week and will want to have all their star players in great form for this match. Also, it remains to be seen whether West Ham try to make some changes to their lineup after facing two defeats from their first three Premier League matches.
